Mahadasha Calculator

Enter your date, time and place of birth to get the full sequence of Vimshottari Mahadashas with start and end dates, along with the dasha balance at birth and the Mahadasha, Antardasha and Pratyantar dasha running now. The sequence starts with the lord of the birth nakshatra, and the balance is fixed by how far the Moon had moved through the nakshatra. So the more accurate the birth time, the more accurate the dates.

How the dasha is counted

The Vimshottari system spans a total of one hundred and twenty years: Ketu seven, Venus twenty, Sun six, Moon ten, Mars seven, Rahu eighteen, Jupiter sixteen, Saturn nineteen and Mercury seventeen years. The lord of the birth dasha is the lord of the Moon's nakshatra. The portion of the nakshatra the Moon has already covered is treated as the part of the dasha already elapsed, and the remaining part is the dasha balance at birth. The following dashas then follow in turn. The length of an Antardasha is the product of the Mahadasha years and the Antardasha years divided by one hundred and twenty, and the same proportion applies in the Pratyantar dasha. The year length is taken as 365.25 days. Checked on 2026-10-10.

An example

As an example, take a birth in Delhi at 2000-01-01 12:00. The lord of the birth dasha came out as Rahu and a dasha balance of 4.444 years remained at birth. The sequence was: Rahu 18y 1986-06-12 to 2004-06-11, then Jupiter 16y 2004-06-11 to 2020-06-11, then Saturn 19y 2020-06-11 to 2039-06-12.

Limitations

  • Several standards for the year length are in use; we have chosen one and stated it on the page. If you choose another standard, the dates shift a little: by a few hours with a solar year, and by several days per year with a 360-day year.
  • The dasha balance needs the Moon's degree to be correct to the arc minute; if the birth time is off by even a few hours, the dates can change by a year or more. If the time is not known, treat the dates as estimates.
  • For older dates (especially old Bombay time), the difference in the local clock of that era is not fully accounted for, so please verify the time.
