How Sade Sati is counted
The difference between Saturn's sign and your Moon sign is worked out. Saturn in the 12th house from the Moon sign is the first phase, on the Moon sign is the second phase, and in the 2nd house is the third phase; together the three make Sade Sati. Saturn in the 4th house is called the small Panauti (Dhaiya, Kantak) and in the 8th is Ashtama Shani. To get the period boundaries, the calculation runs every day from 15 years before to 40 years ahead, and consecutive days are joined. Saturn's sign-entry dates have been matched against published sources. Checked on 2026-10-10.

Take Moon sign Mesha and the check date 2026-10-10. At that time Saturn was in Meena. Result: Sade Sati phase 1 (Saturn in 12th from Moon). This period was shown running from 2025-03-30 to 2032-05-31.
Limitations
- When Saturn turns retrograde and returns to a sign, one period can split into several sub-periods; the page shows all sub-periods separately, so the dates will come in more than one pair.
- The Moon sign is based on the Moon's position at birth; for a birth near a boundary, check your rashi (the Moon sign calculator will help).
- The calculation uses the Lahiri ayanamsa; with another ayanamsa, the sign-entry dates could differ somewhat.
