Navamsa Chart (D9) Calculator

Enter your date, time and place of birth to see the Navamsa sign of the lagna and of every planet, along with a chart image and a marker for Vargottama planets, meaning planets whose birth sign and Navamsa sign are the same. Each sign is divided into nine equal parts, and the part in which a planet falls decides its Navamsa sign, so even a small error can change the sign.

How the Navamsa sign is found

The positions of the planets and lagna are first found by the Kundli calculation, using the Lahiri ayanamsa (from astronomy-engine and IANA time-zone data). Then each sign is divided into nine equal parts and the part the planet is in is found. For movable, fixed and dual signs the Navamsa count starts from a different sign, and this classical rule is what is followed here. Checked on 2026-10-10.

An example

In an example Kundli the lagna is Meena -> D9 Tula. The Moon is Tula -> D9 Meena, the Sun is Dhanu -> D9 Simha and Jupiter is Mesha -> D9 Mesha. Jupiter's birth sign and Navamsa sign are the same, so the Vargottama marker will be shown here.

Method and limitations

  • Each Navamsa is about three degrees, so even a shift of a few minutes in birth time can change the Navamsa sign of the lagna or of a fast-moving planet.
  • If the birth time is not known, the Navamsa sign of the lagna is not reliable; the Navamsa signs of the slow planets usually hold, but the Moon's Navamsa sign can change.
  • The calculation uses the Lahiri ayanamsa and mean Rahu-Ketu; if other software chooses different options, some Navamsa signs may look different.
