The band scale is our own editorial one: 0 to 17 not recommended, 18 to 24 acceptable, 25 to 32 good, 33 to 36 excellent. It is a starting point for a conversation, not a final verdict.

The calculation steps, with your own numbers
The Nadi and Bhakoot signs and the parihar (exception) notes are for information only and are not added to the total. Kundali matching is a basis for talking with the family and a pandit.
An example
In one example pair, the groom's nakshatra came out as Revati and the bride's as Anuradha. The Varna score was 1, Tara 3, Graha Maitri 5, Bhakoot 0 and Nadi 8. Added together, they made a total of 26 gunas.
Which tables we use
The Moon's position for both people is calculated astronomically (astronomy-engine) using the Lahiri ayanamsa, and then the rashi and nakshatra are fixed. The Vashya and Yoni tables are taken from the tables printed in the Maniprabha commentary on Muhurta Chintamani (Chaukhamba edition); other texts place signs such as Kumbha and Simha in a different group. The rules for Tara, Graha Maitri, Gana, Bhakoot and Nadi are classical. Gana scores vary by region; the version we use is stated on the page. Checked on 2026-10-10.
Limitations
- Several versions of the Gana scores are in use. The verse in Muhurta Chintamani is only qualitative and the numbers come from commentaries, so our version may differ from some other tables.
- The notes on exceptions (parihara) for Nadi and Bhakoot dosha are shown for information and are not added to the total. The Nadi and Bhakoot scores themselves are counted in the total.
- If the birth time is not known, the Moon's rashi and nakshatra can change, because the Moon moves about 13 degrees in a day; in that case the matching scores are estimates. If you know the time, do enter it.
- Kundali matching is a basis for conversation with family and a pandit, not a final verdict. This information is for guidance and tradition.

Frequently asked questions
What is nadi in kundali matching?
Nadi is the eighth and highest-scoring koota. Based on the nakshatra, each person's Nadi is Adi, Madhya or Antya. If both have the same Nadi, this koota scores zero; if they differ, it scores the full eight. This is only an indication.
What is bhakoot in kundali matching?
Bhakoot is the seventh koota. It looks at the distance between the two Moon signs. At certain specific distances this koota scores zero, and at the rest the full seven. In the example pair its score was 0.
How to check kundali matching?
Enter the date, time and place of birth of the groom and the bride. We work out both Moon nakshatras, add up the eight koota scores and show the reason for each score. The result can be shared on WhatsApp as a card.
Does kundali matching really matter?
Kundali matching is a traditional method that many families look at when settling a match. It gives information and does not make the decision. The scores alone do not say the last word about any relationship; it is better to talk with your family and a pandit.
