Birth Tithi Calculator

Enter your birth date (English calendar) and birth place to find which tithi and paksha was running at sunrise that day, and which Hindu month it was. You also get the date of your tithi birthday over the next two years. This is not an age calculator: solar and lunar birthdays are not treated as the same thing here.

Your next tithi birthday

The tithi is determined at local sunrise, and optionally at the moment of birth as well. The positions of the Sun and Moon come from astronomical calculation (astronomy-engine), and the Hindu month name from the same Panchang calculation used for today's Panchang. To find the next tithi birthday, the next two years are searched for the day whose sunrise tithi is the same and whose Amanta month name is the same; an adhika masa (extra month) is skipped and the nija masa (regular month) is used. If the tithi is skipped, the previous day is taken, and if it is repeated, the first day is taken. Month names and tithi end times were checked against data from the Positional Astronomy Centre of the India Meteorological Department for 5 to 12 October 2026. Checked on 2026-10-10.

An example

Take the date 2026-10-5 in Delhi. At sunrise that day the tithi was Dashami and the paksha was Krishna, and that tithi ended at 2026-10-06 02:07. In the Amanta system the month was Bhadrapada, while in the Purnimanta system the month for the same day is called Ashvin.

Limitations

  • Different Panchangs write the month name in either the Amanta or the Purnimanta system, so the same day can have two month names. The page shows both, but the tithi birthday is counted by the Amanta month name.
  • A tithi does not run from sunrise to sunrise and can change in the middle of the day, so if you know your birth time, also check the tithi at the moment of birth.
  • For older dates (especially old Bombay time), the difference in the local clock of that era is not fully accounted for, so please verify the time.
