Today's Panchang

Today's Panchang is built from your city's sunrise: vara (weekday), tithi, nakshatra, yoga and karana (each with its end time), Rahu Kaal, Choghadiya and the Hindu month. As soon as you choose a city, everything is calculated for that place. We do not pick up a ready-made list for some other city, so the times fit your location.

How the calculation works

The positions of the Sun and Moon come from astronomical calculation (astronomy-engine), rashi and nakshatra are fixed using the Lahiri ayanamsa, and local time is built from IANA time-zone data. Sunrise is taken at the upper limb, with standard refraction, for an observer at sea level. We compared four examples (Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Surat, one date each) with Drik Panchang: sunrise, tithi, nakshatra, yoga and karana end times, and Rahu Kaal matched within two minutes. For 5 to 12 October 2026, Hindu month names and tithi end times matched the figures of the India Meteorological Department's Positional Astronomy Centre within one minute. These are sample checks; they do not confirm every result the tool gives. Checked on 2026-10-10.

An example: Delhi

In Delhi on 2026-10-10, sunrise was at 2026-10-10 06:19 and sunset at 2026-10-10 17:57. The vara was Shanivara and the tithi was Amavasya (Krishna paksha), which ended at 2026-10-10 21:20. The nakshatra was Hasta and Rahu Kaal ran between 09:13-10:41.

Method, sources and checks

  • The calculation uses the Lahiri ayanamsa, whole-sign houses and mean Rahu-Ketu; if another Panchang chooses different options, some times may look slightly different.
  • For moonrise and moonset checks, a difference of up to five minutes is accepted; for all other times the tolerance is two minutes.
  • In cities at higher altitude, sunrise can come a few minutes earlier (about 2 minutes at 300 m and 3 to 4 minutes at 1,000 m), because we assume an observer at sea level.

Frequently asked questions

What is today's Panchang?

The Panchang is the daily record of the Hindu calendar, made up of vara, tithi, nakshatra, yoga and karana. Here all of these are calculated from your city's sunrise and shown with the time each one ends.

What is today's tithi in the Panchang?

A tithi is formed by the distance between the Moon and the Sun. The page shows today's tithi, its paksha and the time it ends for your city. In the example, Delhi's tithi was Amavasya.

How do I see today's Panchang?

Choose your city above. Today's vara, tithi, nakshatra, yoga, karana, Rahu Kaal and Choghadiya are calculated from that city's sunrise and appear immediately. The time each one ends is written alongside.
