Darakaraka Calculator
Enter your birth details and see the Chara Karakas of the Jaimini method, from Atmakaraka to Darakaraka. The order of each planet's degree within its sign decides which planet becomes which karaka; the planet with the lowest degree is the Darakaraka. The 7-karaka scheme is the default, and the 8-karaka scheme adds Rahu, which you can switch on with one button.

Working, step by step
How the karakas are decided
For the Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn, the degree within the sign (the remainder when the position is divided by thirty) is found and the planets are placed in descending order. In the 7-karaka scheme Rahu and Ketu are not included, and in order the karakas are Atmakaraka, Amatyakaraka, Bhratrukaraka, Matrukaraka, Putrakaraka, Gnatikaraka and Darakaraka. In the 8-karaka scheme, Rahu's degree is subtracted from thirty and then included. In a tie, arc minutes and seconds are compared; no adjustment is made for retrograde planets. Planet positions are calculated with astronomy-engine on the Lahiri ayanamsa. Checked on 2026-10-10.
An example
In an example Kundli, the highest degree is the Moon's 16.7079, so the Atmakaraka is Moon. Right after it comes Saturn with degree 16.5437. The lowest degree was Jupiter's 1.3879, so that planet is the Darakaraka. In the 8-karaka scheme the Darakaraka was Jupiter.
Limitations
- Both the 7 and 8 karaka schemes are in use in tradition and sometimes give a different Darakaraka; we start with the 7-karaka scheme and keep the 8 as an option.
- The fast-moving Moon's degree changes the most with birth time, so a difference of a few hours can change the order of the Atmakaraka or the other karakas. If the time is not known, treat the order as an estimate.
- The calculation is based on the Lahiri ayanamsa and mean Rahu; if other software chooses different options, the degrees may come out slightly different.

Frequently asked questions
What is my darakaraka calculator?
Your Darakaraka is the planet with the lowest degree within its sign among the seven planets. As soon as you enter birth details, the page shows all the karakas in order of degree. In the example Kundli the Darakaraka came out as Jupiter.
In which house is my Darakaraka?
This page gives the list of karakas and their degrees. Which house the Darakaraka is in appears in the house table of the birth chart (Kundli). In the example, the Kundli position of Jupiter, the Darakaraka: Mesha 1.39 deg, house 2, Ashwini pada 1.
